Pure-Lex ties up with US tech giant Nvidia for a pillow that reduces snoring & sleep apnea

South Korean startup Pure-Lex, which develops and sells several healthcare products, has tied up with US tech company Nvidia Corp. for a software upgrade for its unique AI-based pillow that reduces snoring and sleep apnea.

According to Pure-Lex, its new pillow will be equipped with Nvidia’s AI software based on deep learning of respiratory data of patients with snoring and sleep apnea disorder. The pillow with the software senses an individual’s snoring and sleep/sleep apnea cycles and makes subtle motions to move the individual’s head to the side by inflating one side of the pillow when they snore or stop breathing.

Using the pillow will improve the quality of sleep and help open up the respiratory tract of the user quickly. A clinical test in 2022 showed that the Pure-Lex pillow helped reduce 71 percent of snoring intensity and sound while over 50 percent the sleep apnea frequency. The pillow results from a research project led by Korea University’s Sejong Campus.

“Our current product has three sensors that detect the location of a user’s head while asleep and the sound of snoring,” said Kim Kyung-soo, chief executive officer of Pure-Lex. “The upgrade version at the end of this year will have an improved effect,” Kim said.
